Alan Rickman was an English actor and director famous for his complex and mostly antagonistic roles. He gained wider notice for his film performances as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Professor Snape in the Harry Potter film series.

In 1995, Alan Rickman earned a Golden Globe Award, an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of the title character in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny. He won a BAFTA Award for his role in Robin Hood.

USA Post had in 2013 issued a commemorative Harry Potter stamp series. Alan Rickman features in one of a stamp as Professor Snape.

Alan Rickman died yesterday, 14th January 2016 because of cancer.
